A Burrillville homeowner on Ironmine Road needed more than a patch, so we carried the damage-driven work through to a full new roof in CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Charcoal Black. The finished hips, valleys, and crisp ridge cap show a roof restored the right way rather than merely touched up.

Scope of Work

Our assessment showed the existing roof was too far gone for spot repair, so we moved to a full tear-off and rebuild. After stripping to the deck, we inspected the sheathing and swapped out any deteriorated boards, then installed ice-and-water shield at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the field, and fresh drip edge and starter strips. New shingles were run up each plane and finished with a matching ridge cap. When damage runs deeper than the surface, this kind of roof repair becomes a full restoration.

What We Installed (And Why)

The new roof surface is CertainTeed Landmark in Charcoal Black, a laminated architectural shingle chosen for both durability and a clean, dark finish. Once the compromised roof was gone, a uniform Landmark system gave the home a consistent, watertight surface with none of the mismatched planes or aging valleys a patch-only approach would have left behind. It also resets the roof’s lifespan entirely, so the homeowner isn’t managing an old roof and a new patch side by side.

The repair-driven details are where this job earns its keep. By replacing failed decking and rebuilding the ice-and-water and underlayment layers, we eliminated the hidden moisture paths that had been undermining the old roof. New drip edge and starter strips lock down the perimeter, fresh boots seal the penetrations, and valley protection channels the runoff where the roof planes meet. A properly vented ridge keeps the attic dry — closing the loop on the very conditions that had caused the damage in the first place, rather than leaving them to resurface later.

Good To Know: When does a roof repair become a full replacement?

Repairs make sense when damage is isolated and the rest of the roof has real life left. But when we find widespread wear, soft decking, or leaks showing up in multiple areas, patching one spot only pushes the next failure a few feet over. In those cases a full replacement is actually the more economical choice — one complete, warrantable roof instead of repeated service calls chasing an aging system around the house.

Why This Approach Works

Restoring a failing roof means fixing the cause, not just the symptom. Because we tore off to the deck, we could see and correct the rotted sheathing and worn underlayment that surface repairs would have hidden, then rebuild every water-shedding detail from scratch. A patch over a deteriorated deck simply traps the problem underneath and buys a few months at best. The result here is a roof that doesn’t just look repaired — it’s structurally sound from the deck up, which is the only way to stop leaks from coming back for good.
