This stone-front home in the Cowesett neighborhood of Warwick wore a wood shingle roof for decades — handsome, but at the end of its working life. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights removed the old wood roof and installed CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Cobblestone Gray, a color chosen deliberately to complement both the stone facade and the home’s copper accents.
Scope of Work
Wood roofs come off differently than asphalt — the crew stripped the shingles and the skip sheathing beneath, then built a code-compliant solid deck before installing the system: ice and water shield at eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment, drip edge, starters, Landmark field shingles in Cobblestone Gray, and matching caps, with fresh detailing at the chimney.
What We Installed (And Why)
CertainTeed Landmark brings dual-layer construction, a Class A fire rating — something wood shingles could never offer — and CertainTeed’s lifetime limited warranty. For a home crowned in natural stone, moving from wood to a Class A architectural shingle upgrades both the safety and the insurability of the whole structure.
Cobblestone Gray was picked the way good exterior colors always are: from the materials already on the house. Its cool gray blend echoes the stone below and lets the copper flashing and downspouts glow against it. The result looks like the roof the house should have had all along.

Good To Know: What replaces a wood shingle roof best?
Wood shingle roofs sit on skip sheathing — spaced boards that let the wood breathe. When the wood comes off, that spacing has to be solved: continuous decking first, then a modern shingle system. Architectural asphalt in a stone-toned blend keeps the dimensional character wood gave the house while adding fire resistance, algae protection, and a warranty measured in decades. It is the rare replacement that is safer, cheaper to own, and better looking at the same time.
Why This Approach Works
Every layer of this roof was chosen to work with masonry: a solid new deck for consistent nailing, a Class A assembly beside the chimney, and a granule blend that harmonizes with stone instead of fighting it. Materials-first color selection is why the finished roof looks inevitable rather than new.
