Like most Pinnacle roofing projects, the work was completed efficiently — minimizing disruption for the homeowner.
A cape on Chelsea Farm Drive took a beating in a Rhode Island storm, leaving the homeowner with a roof that could no longer be trusted over the main house, garage, and rear deck. Pinnacle handled the full Richmond restoration from damage assessment through insurance to a complete new roof in CertainTeed Landmark shingles, color Georgetown Gray. The result is a clean, unified roofline that reads as one cohesive home again.
Scope of Work
After documenting the storm damage and working the claim through with the adjuster, the crew tore the roof off to the deck across the house, garage, and the section over the rear deck. We inspected the sheathing and replaced any storm-compromised decking, then laid down a full underlayment system before shingling. Every plane got the same treatment so the finished storm damage restoration matched from the main ridge to the garage, with new drip edge, flashings, and ridge cap tying it together.
What We Installed (And Why)
The new roof is a CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingle system in Georgetown Gray, a versatile cool-gray blend that flatters a cape’s simple lines and pairs easily with the home’s siding and trim. Landmark’s two-piece laminate construction adds the depth and shadow line that flat three-tab shingles can’t, and its wind performance is a meaningful upgrade for a roof that just proved vulnerable to a storm.
Beneath the shingles we built the system that actually keeps water out: synthetic underlayment over the field, ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and every penetration, new drip edge along the edges, and fresh pipe boots and vents. Ridge cap shingles finish the peaks, and balanced ventilation helps the whole assembly breathe so the deck stays dry through Richmond’s seasons.

Good To Know: Do I have to replace the whole roof, or just the storm-damaged section?
It depends on the damage, but a full tear-off is often the right call and the one insurance supports. When wind or hail has worked over multiple planes, patching one section leaves you with mismatched shingles and older, weakened areas waiting to fail. Replacing the roof as a system, house and garage together, gives you a uniform, warrantied result and a single clean roofline instead of a visible repair scar. We assess honestly and tell you what the damage actually justifies, then document it so the adjuster sees the full scope.
Why This Approach Works
Treating a storm reroof as one connected system, rather than a series of patches, is what makes it last. A full tear-off lets us see and fix the decking, reset every flashing, and lay a continuous modern underlayment layer that a spot repair simply can’t provide. On a cape with a garage and a covered deck, doing all the planes at once also means the shingles weather evenly and the roof looks intentional from the street, not stitched together after the fact.

Richmond, RI
Richmond is one of southern Rhode Island’s quieter, more rural corners, full of capes, colonials, and farmhouse-style homes set on open land where storms hit with little to slow them down. That exposure makes a durable, properly detailed roof a real investment out here. Pinnacle is glad to serve homeowners throughout Richmond.
