S. Ferry Road in Saunderstown is close enough to the bay that a worn roof shows its age quickly, and this home had reached the point where patching was no longer the answer. Pinnacle addressed the underlying wear with a full replacement, installing CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Georgetown Gray to restore the roof and stop the problems at their source.
Scope of Work
Rather than chase leaks across a failing surface, the crew tore the old roof off to the deck, inspected the sheathing, and replaced anything soft or compromised. From there the roof was rebuilt as a complete system: ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations; synthetic underlayment across the field; drip edge and starter strips at the perimeter; and new CertainTeed Landmark shingles laid up to a fresh ridge. What We Installed (And Why)
The finished roof is CertainTeed Landmark in Georgetown Gray — a cool, versatile gray that suits the coastal-New-England look of the neighborhood. Landmark is a dimensional architectural shingle with a two-piece laminated construction that gives the roof depth and shadow lines a flat three-tab can’t match, along with the wind and weather resistance a home near the water needs.
Just as important is the system underneath. Ice-and-water shield seals the vulnerable eaves, valleys, and every pipe and vent penetration against wind-driven rain and ice damming, while synthetic underlayment adds a secondary water barrier over the whole deck. Fresh drip edge, starter strips, and ridge cap finish the assembly so wind gets no exposed edge to lift. This is what separates a real replacement from a surface patch: the leaks stop because the whole roof was rebuilt, not just re-covered.

Good To Know: Should I repair my roof or replace it?
A targeted repair makes sense when the damage is isolated and the rest of the roof has real life left. But when a roof is broadly worn, leaking in more than one spot, or shedding granules across the whole surface, spot-fixing just delays the inevitable — you keep paying for patches on a roof that is failing everywhere. A full tear-off and replacement, like this one, resets the clock with a complete, warrantied system and usually costs less over time than a string of repairs.
Why This Approach Works
Going back to the deck lets the crew find and fix problems a surface repair would hide — soft sheathing, failed flashing details, worn underlayment that no longer sheds water. Rebuilding with sealed eaves and valleys, a full underlayment layer, and properly finished edges means the new roof is watertight as a system, not just a fresh layer of shingles over old problems. It also resets the manufacturer warranty on the whole assembly, something a patch can never do. That is why a replacement driven by real wear outlasts and outperforms repeated patchwork, and why it usually proves the more economical choice over the life of the home.

Saunderstown, RI
Saunderstown is a quiet coastal village in North Kingstown, known for its Narragansett Bay shoreline, historic homes, and the ferry connections that give S. Ferry Road its name. The salt air and exposure here are hard on roofs, so durable materials and tight flashing details matter. Pinnacle is proud to help homeowners across Saunderstown protect their homes from the coast’s weather.
