This classic island home in Jamestown needed more than shingles — the roof deck itself had aged out. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights rebuilt the roof from the wood up: new plywood decking over the old boards, a complete CertainTeed system, and Landmark shingles in Granite Gray, a balanced blend that suits the village’s traditional white clapboard homes.
Scope of Work
The crew stripped the old roof and found what many Jamestown homes of this age hide: weathered board decking that could no longer hold a fastener the way shingles demand. We installed fresh plywood sheathing across the roof, then built the system on top — ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the field, new drip edge and starter strip, CertainTeed Landmark field shingles in Granite Gray, and matching hip and ridge caps.
What We Installed (And Why)
CertainTeed Landmark is the industry’s benchmark dual-layer architectural shingle — two laminated layers that give the roof real depth and a Class A fire rating, with one of the widest color selections in the industry and CertainTeed’s lifetime limited warranty behind it. On an island that takes wind off Narragansett Bay from two directions, that dual-layer construction is not a cosmetic choice.
Granite Gray blends light and dark gray granules into a color that reads crisp against white siding — the most classic New England pairing there is. It keeps this home looking exactly like it belongs on a Jamestown street, just sharper than it has looked in years.

Good To Know: When does a roof need new plywood decking?
Shingles are only as good as what they’re nailed to. Homes built before plywood became standard often have board sheathing with gaps, and decades of moisture cycles can leave boards cracked, cupped, or too soft to grip a nail. Building code and every shingle manufacturer require a solidly sheathed deck — so when tear-off reveals tired boards, new plywood over the old deck is the right call, not an upsell. It is the difference between a roof that holds in a gale and one that sheds shingles.
Why This Approach Works
A roof is a system, and it starts with the deck. New plywood gives every fastener full holding power; ice and water shield guards the eaves where island freeze-thaw does its worst; and the Landmark system above it is engineered to work as one assembly. Nothing on this roof is inherited, patched, or assumed — which is exactly what you want between your home and a bay storm.
