A colonial on Gazza Road in Glocester received a complete new roof in CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black. The dark, subtly blended tone frames the home’s classic lines and gives the front elevation a clean, finished presence from the street.

Scope of Work

The project started with a full tear-off to the deck, followed by a close inspection of the sheathing and replacement of any weak boards. We then built the water-management layers back up: ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and around penetrations; synthetic underlayment across the field; and new drip edge and starter strips at the perimeter. New pipe boots and vents were set before the Landmark shingles went on, and the roof was capped with matching ridge cap over a balanced ventilation system. See our full residential roofing process for the details.

What We Installed (And Why)

The finished roof is CertainTeed Landmark in Moire Black, a dimensional shingle whose blend of dark granules produces a rich, moving tone that never looks flat. On a colonial with strong horizontal rooflines, that depth reads especially well, sharpening the silhouette of the house without drawing attention away from its architecture. Landmark’s laminated build also gives the roof a substantial, high-end appearance from the curb while carrying the durability and wind resistance you want on an exposed rural lot.

Beneath the surface, the assembly is built to handle Glocester’s rural, tree-shaded conditions. Ice-and-water membrane at the eaves defends against winter ice dams, valley protection manages runoff from the roof’s intersecting planes, and synthetic underlayment provides a secondary barrier over the entire deck. New boots seal the plumbing penetrations, and fresh drip edge keeps water tracking into the gutters rather than behind the trim. Ridge-and-eave ventilation keeps the attic breathing so heat and moisture don’t shorten the roof’s life — an especially important detail under a canopy of trees, where a poorly vented roof stays damp and deteriorates faster.

Good To Know: Do new pipe boots and vents really matter?

They matter more than most homeowners expect. Rubber pipe boots are one of the first components to crack and leak as a roof ages, often years before the shingles themselves give out. Replacing every boot and vent during a full roof install means those small penetrations won’t become the weak point beneath an otherwise brand-new roof — it’s a low-cost step that prevents a very common, and very annoying, source of leaks.

Why This Approach Works

A roof is a system, not just a layer of shingles, and every component has to do its job for the whole to hold up. By tearing off completely, correcting the deck, and renewing the underlayment, flashing, boots, and ventilation all at once, we deliver a roof with no lingering weak spots left behind to fail early. A single overlooked boot or aging valley can undo an otherwise flawless install, which is why we treat the small details with the same care as the field shingles. That’s what turns a good-looking Moire Black roof into one that stays watertight through Glocester’s wet springs and heavy winters.

Glocester, RI

Glocester is one of Rhode Island’s most rural towns, known for its wooded lots, historic villages like Chepachet, and homes that sit among mature trees. That leafy setting is beautiful but tough on roofs, adding shade, debris, and moisture that demand solid ventilation and water protection. We’re proud to serve Glocester with roofs built for those conditions.
