Like most Pinnacle roofing projects, the work was completed in a single day — minimizing disruption for the homeowner.
Storm damage on this North Smithfield cape became a full restoration: CertainTeed Landmark PRO in Max Def Cobblestone Gray over a completely rebuilt system, with a manual-venting skylight added to bring light and airflow into the living space while the roof was open.
Scope of Work
The crew stripped the storm-damaged roof and dried the cape in — the mid-project photos show the house fully wrapped in CertainTeed underlayment, weathertight before a single shingle went down. Then the system: ice and water shield at eaves and valleys, new drip edge and starters, Landmark PRO field shingles in Cobblestone Gray, ridge caps, and the venting skylight flashed into the assembly.
What We Installed (And Why)
Landmark PRO’s heavier dual-layer construction is the storm-country spec: more mass against uplift, Max Def granules for color depth, CertainTeed’s lifetime limited warranty behind it. On a compact cape, the upgrade cost over standard shingles is modest — and the resilience difference is not.
Cobblestone Gray is the coolest-headed color in the Max Def range — a clean, stone-toned gray that suits New England capes the way slate once did. The manual-venting skylight is the sleeper upgrade: cracked open on a summer evening, it exhausts the day’s heat from the upstairs the way no window can.

Good To Know: What does ‘dried-in’ mean during a roof project?
Dried-in means the roof is weathertight on its underlayment layers before shingles are installed — ice and water shield sealed at the critical zones, synthetic underlayment lapped over the field, every edge trimmed and fastened. A properly dried-in roof can take rain without a drop entering. It is the checkpoint that separates disciplined crews from fast ones: the house is protected the whole way through, not just at the finish line.
Why This Approach Works
Storm restorations succeed in layers: waterproof the deck, seal the edges, bond the field, vent the ridge. Adding the skylight while those layers went down means its flashing is part of the system — not a hole cut into a finished roof and hoped over.
