This home at 8 Grinnell Street in Jamestown sustained wind damage that required a full roof replacement. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights worked with the homeowner on the insurance claim, securing coverage for the entire roof under the homeowner’s policy — meaning the homeowner was only responsible for their deductible. The steep-slope sections were replaced with CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Max Def Colonial Slate, and the low-slope/flat sections received SA rolled asphalt (modified bitumen).

Scope of Work

Pinnacle’s crew stripped the entire roof — both the steep-slope shingle sections and the low-slope flat areas — inspected all sheathing for moisture damage, and installed two distinct systems matched to the roof geometry. The steep-slope areas received the full CertainTeed Integrity Roof System: ice and water shield at eaves and penetrations, synthetic underlayment, starter strip, Landmark PRO shingles in Max Def Colonial Slate, and matching hip and ridge caps. The low-slope sections — where standard shingles cannot be used — received self-adhered modified bitumen rolled asphalt, a proven flat-roof material that creates a continuous waterproof membrane.

What We Installed (And Why)

CertainTeed Landmark PRO in Max Def Colonial Slate delivers a refined, neutral gray with subtle warm undertones — a color that reads as sophisticated without being bold. The Max Def technology uses a multi-tonal granule blend for enhanced depth and dimension across the roof plane. Landmark PRO carries a Class A fire rating, 130 MPH wind warranty, and algae-resistant granules — critical performance specs for a home that already experienced wind damage.

The SA (self-adhered) rolled asphalt on the flat sections is a modified bitumen membrane that bonds directly to the deck without torch application or hot asphalt. Self-adhered systems are the safest installation method for modified bitumen and create a continuous waterproof surface across the low-slope areas. Using two matched systems — architectural shingles on steep slopes and membrane on flat sections — is standard practice for homes with mixed roof geometry.

As a CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier, Pinnacle qualifies to offer the SureStart PLUS extended warranty on the shingle portions — 50 years of non-prorated coverage including the first 15 years at full replacement cost.

Good To Know

Homeowners insurance typically covers roof damage caused by weather events — wind, hail, fallen trees — but the claims process can be confusing and the outcome depends heavily on how the claim is documented and presented. Pinnacle works with homeowners throughout the insurance process: documenting the damage, coordinating with the adjuster, and ensuring the scope of work reflects what’s actually needed. In this case, the entire roof was covered under the policy. Many homeowners don’t realize that a partial wind damage claim can often result in full roof coverage when the damage is widespread enough that a patch repair wouldn’t restore the system to pre-loss condition.

Why This Approach Works

A home with mixed roof geometry needs two systems working together. Shingles handle the steep slopes where gravity drives water runoff, and a membrane handles the flat sections where water moves slowly and may pond temporarily. Using the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System on the steep slopes ensures full manufacturer warranty coverage, while the SA modified bitumen on the flat areas provides a proven, low-maintenance waterproofing solution. The transition between the two systems is the most critical flashing detail on a mixed-geometry roof, and Pinnacle’s crew handles this routinely.

Why Pinnacle

Pinnacle Roofing is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier with experience on both steep-slope shingle work and low-slope membrane applications. Insurance claim projects add another layer of complexity — the scope must be documented correctly, the work must meet both manufacturer specs and the insurer’s requirements, and the homeowner needs clear communication throughout. Pinnacle handles all of this as part of the project. Whether it’s a straightforward residential roof replacement or a wind-damage insurance project with mixed roof systems, the quality standard stays the same. With over 100 five-star Google reviews and an A+ BBB rating, our track record speaks for itself.
