Wind damage started this Smithfield project; craftsmanship finished it. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights met the insurance adjuster, reviewed the scope, wrote the proposal, and got a complete replacement approved — then installed CertainTeed Landmark PRO in Colonial Slate and rebuilt the chimney flashing in fabricated lead, the way it was originally done.
Scope of Work
After claim approval, the crew tore off the damaged roof and installed the full system: underlayment at eaves and field, drip edge, starters, Landmark PRO shingles in Colonial Slate, and matching caps. At the chimney, we ground out the old lead flashing, installed an ice and water barrier around the masonry, wove in new step flashing course by course, and fabricated new lead counter flashing to lock it all down.
What We Installed (And Why)
Landmark PRO carries a Class A fire rating, 110 MPH wind warranty — the relevant number after a wind claim — StreakFighter algae resistance, and CertainTeed’s lifetime limited warranty with SureStart protection. Colonial Slate’s blue-gray blend was chosen to complement the home’s siding, and its Max Def depth reads like quarried stone from the street.
The chimney work deserves its own mention: fabricated lead counter flashing is the traditional standard — soft enough to dress into mortar joints, durable enough to outlast the shingles around it. Most storm-repair quotes reuse old flashing; this roof got the full rebuild.

Good To Know: Why is chimney flashing rebuilt in lead?
Lead has been the flashing metal of choice for centuries because it does what a chimney demands: it molds by hand into mortar joints, moves with the masonry through freeze-thaw, and lasts generations. Grinding out old lead, setting new step flashing under the shingles, and dressing fresh lead counter flashing into the joints is slower than caulking over the problem — and it is the difference between a chimney that stains a ceiling in five years and one that never does.
Why This Approach Works
Storm claims fund complete fixes when the scope is written right — and a complete fix includes the details wind stresses most, like flashing. New system, new chimney detail, one insurance-approved project: the roof and its weakest point both reset to day one.
