Like most Pinnacle roofing projects, the work was completed in a single day — minimizing disruption for the homeowner.

Tucked into a wooded corner of Exeter, this home had reached the point most houses eventually do — the old asphalt roof had given all it had to give, worn down by years of sun, tree cover, and New England weather. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights replaced it with CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Driftwood, a warm driftwood-gray blend the homeowner chose to complement the house and settle naturally into its tree-lined surroundings.

Scope of Work

Pinnacle’s crew completed a full tear-off down to the deck, then inspected the sheathing for hidden wear before rebuilding the roof as a complete system — ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the field, new drip edge and starter strip, Landmark PRO field shingles in Driftwood, and matching hip and ridge caps. We also confirmed the roof’s ventilation balance, so the new system breathes the way it should under a canopy of trees.

What We Installed (And Why)

CertainTeed Landmark PRO is a heavyweight, dual-layer architectural shingle engineered for durability and depth. It carries a Class A fire rating, a 110 MPH wind warranty, and CertainTeed’s StreakFighter algae-resistance technology — which matters in a shaded, wooded setting like this one, where damp conditions and tree cover invite the black streaking you see on so many older roofs. It’s backed by CertainTeed’s lifetime limited warranty with SureStart protection.

Driftwood is one of Landmark PRO’s Max Def colors — a blend of warm gray and soft brown granules that reads like weathered natural wood. On a home surrounded by trees, that multi-tonal blend does real work: the roof picks up the changing light through the canopy and shows texture and depth instead of a flat, single-tone surface.

Good To Know: Why do wooded lots need algae-resistant shingles?

Wooded lots are beautiful, but they’re hard on roofs. Shade slows drying after rain, and airborne algae feeds on the limestone filler in standard shingles — that’s where the ugly black streaks come from. Two defenses matter most: algae-resistant granules like CertainTeed’s StreakFighter, and a properly balanced ventilation system that helps the roof deck dry from below. This project got both.

Why This Approach Works

A complete tear-off and system rebuild is the most reliable path to a roof that performs for decades — no shortcuts, no layovers. Every layer, from the ice and water shield to the ridge caps, comes from one manufacturer and is designed to work together, which is also what keeps the warranty strong. The Landmark PRO system adds Class A fire resistance, wind protection, and algae defense on top of the color the homeowner actually wanted.

Exeter, RI

Exeter is one of Rhode Island’s most rural towns — big wooded lots, winding roads, and homes tucked well back from the street. That setting shapes roofing decisions: tree cover means algae resistance and ventilation matter more than usual, and earthy, wood-toned colors like Driftwood tend to suit the landscape better than stark urban palettes. Pinnacle has completed many projects across Exeter and western Rhode Island. See our Exeter roofing page for more on how we serve this community.
