Like most Pinnacle roofing projects, the work was completed in a single day — minimizing disruption for the homeowner.
Pinnacle makes every roof affordable with monthly financing options to make your home project affordable with low monthly payments, including 0% interest for 18 months.
When a homeowner on Briarcliff Avenue in Warwick decided to add solar panels, they knew the existing roof and skylights needed attention first. Rather than install solar over aging materials, they contacted Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights to handle the roof and skylight replacement before the solar company arrived. That kind of sequencing matters — it protects the solar investment and avoids the cost of removing and reinstalling panels down the road.
We replaced the entire roof with CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Moire Black, a heavy-weight architectural shingle that delivers both performance and a clean visual profile alongside solar panels. The dark, uniform tone of Moire Black was chosen specifically to complement the appearance of the panel array — a detail that makes a real difference in curb appeal when solar is part of the picture.
The skylight package included both VELUX Solar-Powered Venting skylights and VELUX Fixed skylights, each backed by a 20-year glass warranty. Coordinating the skylight replacement with the roof tear-off meant proper flashing integration from the start — no cutting back into a finished roof later.
Scope of Work
The full scope covered a complete tear-off of the existing roofing system down to the deck, inspection and repair of the sheathing as needed, and installation of new ice and water shield, synthetic underlayment, and CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Moire Black. All flashings, drip edges, and ventilation components were replaced to match the new system.
On the skylight side, we removed the old units and installed a combination of VELUX Fixed skylights and VELUX Solar-Powered Venting skylights with new step and counter flashing kits. The entire project was sequenced ahead of the solar installation so the panel crew could mount directly to a brand-new roof with intact warranty coverage.
What We Installed (And Why)
The CertainTeed Landmark PRO is a heavy-weight laminated shingle rated for up to 130 mph wind resistance. It carries the CertainTeed SureStart Plus 4 Star Warranty — 50 years of coverage including the first 15 years at full replacement cost with no proration. Moire Black was the right color choice here: its deep, consistent tone sits cleanly alongside the dark profile of solar panels rather than competing with them.
The VELUX skylight package paired Fixed units for rooms that just need daylight with Solar-Powered Venting units where the homeowner wanted airflow control — all operated by remote with no wiring required. Every VELUX unit we install comes with a 20-year glass warranty and is installed to VELUX specifications as a certified installer. By replacing the skylights during the roof tear-off, we were able to flash everything as one integrated system rather than patching around old units.

Good To Know
If you are planning to add solar panels, the smartest move is to replace your roof first. Solar arrays are designed to stay in place for 25 years or more, and removing them to re-roof later adds significant cost. By coordinating with your solar provider and handling the roof and skylights beforehand, you start with a fully warrantied system underneath — no conflicts, no gaps in coverage.
Why This Approach Works
Combining the roof replacement, skylight upgrade, and solar preparation into one sequenced project eliminated redundant labor and protected every warranty involved. The CertainTeed SureStart Plus 4 Star 50-year warranty stays intact because the panels mount to a properly installed system. The VELUX 20-year glass warranty holds because the skylights were flashed during the original installation — not retrofitted after the fact. Every component works together because it was planned that way from the start.
