This Cumberland home — white clapboard, brick chimney, sunroom wing — needed its roof replaced and its chimney details done properly. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights installed a complete CertainTeed system in Landmark PRO Max Def Pewterwood, reflashing the chimney into the new field rather than reusing what was there.
Scope of Work
The crew stripped the roof across the main house and sunroom wing, then built the system: ice and water shield at eaves, valleys, and around the chimney, synthetic underlayment, new drip edge and starters, Landmark PRO field shingles, and matching ridge caps. At the chimney, old flashing came off with the shingles — new step flashing went in under every course, with counterflashing dressed over it.
What We Installed (And Why)
Landmark PRO carries CertainTeed’s Max Def color technology on a heavier dual-layer build than standard Landmark — better wind performance, richer color, same lifetime limited warranty family. It is the shingle we recommend most often when a homeowner plans to stay in the house long enough to enjoy the difference.
Max Def Pewterwood is the great harmonizer: gray at a glance, warm in the details, at home against white siding and red brick alike — which is precisely this house. It is the most-requested color across our Rhode Island projects, and this roof shows why.

Good To Know: Should chimney flashing be replaced with the roof?
Yes — always. Flashing is the most failure-prone detail on any roof, and it can only be integrated correctly while the surrounding shingles are off. Reusing old flashing to save a few dollars leaves 30-year shingles guarding a 5-year weak point. If your roofing quote says ‘reuse existing flashing,’ ask why the most leak-prone spot on your roof is the one place they want to economize.
Why This Approach Works
A roof is a system of overlaps — each layer lapping the one below so water never meets a seam it can enter. Fresh step flashing woven into every shingle course extends that logic up the chimney, which is why this roof’s most vulnerable intersection is now its most protected.
