A homeowner on Woodlawn Circle in Hope Valley was ready to replace an aging roof before it became a problem, and chose Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights for a full tear-off and rebuild. The new roof was finished in CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Weathered Wood, including the section over the sunroom.
Scope of Work
This was a complete roof replacement. Our crew tore off the old shingles down to the deck across the main roof and the sunroom, inspected the sheathing, and replaced any boards that had gone soft before building the new system. We installed ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations, ran synthetic underlayment over the full field, set drip edge and starter strips at the perimeter, detailed flashing at the walls and penetrations, and capped the ridges. You can read more about our full-replacement process on our residential roofing page.
What We Installed (And Why)
The home received CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles in Weathered Wood, a soft, warm brown-gray blend that suits a wide range of home colors and remains one of the most popular choices in Rhode Island. Landmark is a dimensional shingle built from two laminated layers, which gives the roof genuine depth and a wood-shingle-inspired shadow line rather than the flat, uniform look of a basic three-tab.
Because much of this project was documented while the crew was still working, the story here is honest and process-first: what makes this roof reliable is the system underneath the shingles as much as the shingles themselves. The ice-and-water membrane guards the eaves and valleys against ice dams, the synthetic underlayment adds a continuous secondary water barrier, and careful flashing at the sunroom tie-in and other transitions keeps water moving off the roof. Those layers are what turn a good-looking roof into a durable one.

Good To Know: Should I replace my roof before it starts leaking?
Yes, replacing a roof proactively is almost always the smarter move. Once a roof is actively leaking, water has usually already reached the decking, insulation, or interior finishes, turning a straightforward re-roof into a larger repair. Replacing an aging roof while it is still holding, as this Hope Valley homeowner did, avoids that interior damage, lets the work be scheduled on your terms, and protects the home before winter puts the old roof to the test.
Why This Approach Works
A full tear-off to the deck is the only way to know the real condition of the sheathing and to build the roof correctly from the structure up. Replacing soft decking, layering in ice-and-water shield and synthetic underlayment, and detailing the flashing at every transition, including the sunroom, means the finished roof is watertight as a complete system. The Weathered Wood Landmark shingle then gives the home a lasting, classic finish over a roof that is sound where it counts.

Hope Valley, RI
Hope Valley is a quiet village in the town of Hopkinton in Rhode Island’s rural southwest corner, where wooded lots and tree-shaded homes give the area its character. All that shade means moss, debris, and moisture that make a well-built, properly flashed roof especially valuable here. Pinnacle is proud to serve homeowners throughout Hope Valley.
