Scope of Work

The crew opened the shingle courses around the chimney, removed the failed flashing, and rebuilt the detail from the deck up: membrane at the chimney base, new step flashing woven shingle by shingle, and counter flashing seated against sound masonry — with the brickwork itself repointed where weathered joints would have undermined the new metal. The surrounding Landmark PRO shingles were then relaid into the field.

What We Installed (And Why)

A chimney flashing system is two layers with different jobs: step flashing carries water over each shingle course, and counter flashing — set into the masonry — sheds water over the steps while letting chimney and roof move independently. When either layer ages out, water finds the seam; rebuilding both, with the masonry repointed first, is the honest fix.

Because the roof itself had years of life left, surgical repair was the right economics: the homeowner paid for a detail, not a replacement, and the repaired corner now outlasts the field around it.
