A Church Street home in Burrillville had reached the end of its old roof’s life and was ready for a full replacement with a look that stands out from the neighborhood’s usual grays and browns. The homeowners chose CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Atlantic Blue — a rich, weather-tested asphalt shingle that pairs a distinctive color with the durability a Rhode Island roof needs. Pinnacle handled the tear-off, deck work, and install to give the house a clean, protected roofline built to last.
Scope of Work
Our crew stripped the home down to the wood deck, cleared every old shingle and nail, and inspected the sheathing before anything new went on. Any boards showing rot or soft spots were replaced so the new roof would fasten into solid wood. From there we laid an ice-and-water shield along the eaves, valleys, and around every penetration, rolled synthetic underlayment across the field, and set a fresh drip edge and starter strip at the perimeter. The Landmark shingles went on with new pipe boots and vents, followed by matching ridge cap and a balanced ventilation setup — the kind of complete residential roofing system that protects the whole structure, not just the surface.
What We Installed (And Why)
CertainTeed Landmark is a dimensional architectural shingle built in a two-piece laminate that gives the roof depth and shadow lines a flat three-tab can’t match. It carries a Class A fire rating, resists wind uplift, and includes StreakFighter algae protection to keep the surface from streaking with black stains over the years — a real concern in New England’s damp, shaded conditions. It is the workhorse of CertainTeed’s line for good reason.
The Atlantic Blue color is what makes this project memorable. CertainTeed blends multiple granule shades into each shingle so the blue reads deep and dimensional rather than flat, shifting subtly with the light through the day. On this home it gives the roofline real personality while still sitting comfortably against the trim and siding — a confident choice that photographs beautifully and holds its tone season after season.

Good To Know: Will a blue roof still look good in ten years?
It will, as long as the color is engineered for it — and Atlantic Blue is. The concern homeowners raise about bold roof colors is fading, but CertainTeed’s blended-granule shingles are designed to weather evenly instead of washing out in patches. The StreakFighter algae resistance also matters here: nothing dates a colored roof faster than black streaking, and keeping that at bay lets the blue stay true. Pair a quality shingle with proper attic ventilation to manage heat, and a color roof ages just as gracefully as a neutral one.
Why This Approach Works
A roof is only as good as what sits under the shingles, which is why we never shortcut the tear-off. Going down to the deck lets us find and replace bad wood, seal the vulnerable eaves and valleys with ice-and-water membrane, and start the whole assembly on a clean, dry surface. Layering a distinctive shingle like Atlantic Blue over that foundation means the homeowner gets the standout curb appeal they wanted and the water-tight, wind-resistant performance they need — no trade-off between the two.
