This home on Rockland Drive in South Kingstown needed more than shingles; it needed the roof, chimney, and drainage brought back into one healthy system. We installed a CertainTeed Landmark roof in Colonial Slate, rebuilt and reflashed the chimney, and hung new seamless aluminum gutters so water is managed from ridge to ground. Handling all three together closed the gaps where an aging roof, a failing chimney, and tired gutters usually let water in.

Scope of Work

The crew tore the old roof off to the deck, then built the assembly back up with ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations, synthetic underlayment across the field, and new drip edge and starter strips. We set the CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Colonial Slate, rebuilt the chimney, and wrapped it in fresh step-flashing and counterflashing so that notorious leak point is truly sealed. What We Installed (And Why)

CertainTeed Landmark is a dimensional architectural shingle with a two-piece laminated build that gives it depth, wind resistance, and a long service life. In Colonial Slate, its cool gray-and-charcoal blend mimics natural slate and suits the classic New England lines of this home, all at a fraction of the weight and cost of real stone. It is a roof meant to look right on a South County street for decades.

The chimney is where this project earned its keep. Old, tar-patched flashing is one of the most common sources of interior leaks, so instead of smearing over it we rebuilt the chimney and installed proper step-flashing woven into the courses with a counterflashing cap locked into the masonry. Tie that watertight chimney into new seamless gutters, which have no mid-run joints to clog or drip, and rainwater now runs cleanly off the roof and away from the foundation.

Good To Know: Why do seamless gutters outperform the sectional kind?

Sectional gutters are joined every few feet, and every one of those seams is a spot where debris collects and, eventually, water leaks. Seamless aluminum gutters are formed on site in continuous runs custom-cut to each roofline, so the only joints are at the corners and downspout outlets. Fewer seams means fewer clogs, fewer drips down the fascia, and far less maintenance, which matters most on a home like this where the gutters are carrying water off a large slate-look roof.
