Scope of Work

The crew stripped the aging shingles, built new flashing at the chimney — step flashing woven into the courses, sealed counterflashing above, a new pipe boot beside it — and installed the system across the ranch’s simple gables: ice and water shield, synthetic underlayment, drip edge and starters, Landmark field shingles, and ridge caps. The new fixed skylight was framed and flashed into the rear slope during the same build.

Good To Know: How do you know if a ceiling stain is really the chimney’s fault?

Follow the water uphill. Chimney leaks stain ceilings near the chimney chase but can travel along rafters and show up feet away. The tells: stains that worsen after wind-driven rain (not every rain), rusty streaks on the chase, and crumbling mortar joints where old counterflashing pulled loose. A hose test on a dry day — wetting the chimney only — settles it. What never settles it: another coat of roof cement, which is a one-season bandage that makes the eventual real repair harder.
