On Lake Road in Narragansett, this colonial needed both a new roof and a water-management system that could keep up with coastal downpours, so we replaced the roof in CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Charcoal Black and finished the home with new seamless aluminum gutters. Treating the roof and gutters as one project meant the water that sheds off the fresh shingles is captured and carried cleanly away from the foundation, the way a coastal home needs.

Scope of Work

We tore the old roof off to the deck, replaced any soft sheathing, and rebuilt the system with ice-and-water shield at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, and starter strips before installing the Landmark PRO field and matching ridge cap with balanced ventilation. With the roof watertight, the crew moved to the water-handling side: measuring and forming seamless aluminum gutter on site, hanging it at the correct pitch, and setting downspouts to route runoff well away from the foundation. See our full seamless gutter systems for how the roof and gutter work together as one drainage plan.

What We Installed (And Why)

CertainTeed Landmark PRO is a heavier-weight architectural shingle than the standard Landmark, with more asphalt and a fuller dimensional profile that reads as depth and shadow from the street. That extra weight brings better wind performance and a more substantial look, which suits a coastal colonial that takes on-shore wind straight off Narragansett Bay. The Max Def Charcoal Black color gives the roof a deep, near-black tone with subtle variation that pairs sharply with light siding and crisp white trim.

The gutters are seamless aluminum, formed in one continuous run per side right at the house rather than pieced together from short store-bought sections. Fewer seams means far fewer places to leak, clog, or pull apart over time. Hung at the right pitch and fed into properly placed downspouts, the system moves heavy Rhode Island rain off the roof and away from the foundation quickly, protecting siding, soffits, and the ground below.

Good To Know: Why replace the gutters at the same time as the roof?

The roof and the gutters are two halves of one water-management system, and coordinating them pays off. When new seamless gutters go up right after a re-roof, we can set the drip edge, starter course, and gutter line to work together so water leaves the shingles and lands cleanly in the trough, not behind it. Doing both at once also means one crew, one mobilization, and a gutter run matched to the new roofline, rather than fitting fresh gutters to old fascia later and hoping the transitions line up. On a coastal home like this one, that tight coordination is what keeps runoff off the foundation.

Why This Approach Works

A great roof still fails the house if the water it sheds is not controlled once it hits the eaves. By pairing a durable, wind-rated Landmark PRO roof with a purpose-built seamless gutter system, we close the loop: the shingles shed water, the drip edge directs it, and continuous gutters at proper pitch carry it to downspouts and away from the structure. That end-to-end path is what protects the fascia, siding, and foundation of a Narragansett home through years of coastal storms.

Narragansett, RI

Narragansett is a classic Rhode Island shore town, where homes face salt air, strong on-shore winds, and the heavy rain that rolls in off the bay. Those conditions put real demands on both roofs and gutters, making durable shingles and a seamless drainage system a smart pairing for a coastal property. We are proud to serve homeowners throughout Narragansett with roofing and gutter work built for the coast.
