On Sprucebrook Road in Scituate, this colonial got a full roof replacement in CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Pewterwood, with new VELUX skylights set into the new roof plane. The homeowner wanted a heavier, longer-lasting shingle and more natural light in the rooms below — so we handled both in one clean project.
Scope of Work
We tore the roof off to the deck, checked the sheathing, and rebuilt the system from the wood up: ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations, synthetic underlayment across the field, new drip edge, and starter strips along every edge. CertainTeed Landmark PRO in Pewterwood went down over the top, finished with matching ridge cap and balanced ridge-and-soffit ventilation. New VELUX skylights were cut in and flashed with VELUX’s matched flashing kits. See the full residential roofing system we install on every home.
What We Installed (And Why)
Landmark PRO is CertainTeed’s heavier-weight architectural shingle — a step up from standard Landmark, with more asphalt and a bolder dimensional shadow line. On a colonial like this one, that extra depth reads beautifully from the street and stands up well to Scituate’s wind and weather. It’s a lifetime-rated shingle, so it’s built to be the last roof this home needs for a very long time.
Pewterwood was the color choice, and it’s a smart one for a classic colonial — a soft, silvery gray-brown that shifts with the light and pairs cleanly with white or muted trim. The VELUX skylights were the other half of the brief: installed with VELUX’s engineered flashing so they’re watertight to the deck, they bring daylight straight down into rooms that a wall window couldn’t reach.

Good To Know: Is Landmark PRO worth it over standard Landmark?
For many homeowners, yes. Landmark PRO carries more weight and asphalt than standard Landmark, which means a richer, more dimensional look and added durability against wind and impact — while still using the same trusted Landmark platform. If you’re planning to stay in your home for the long haul and want the roof to look its best from the curb, the upgrade to PRO is usually a modest cost for a noticeable difference.
Why This Approach Works
A full tear-off lets us verify the deck and rebuild every weatherproofing layer correctly, rather than hiding old problems under new shingles. Pairing a lifetime-rated Landmark PRO roof with properly flashed VELUX skylights and balanced ventilation means this Scituate colonial gets durability, daylight, and airflow all working together — the combination that makes a roof both last and feel better to live under.

Scituate, RI
Scituate is one of Rhode Island’s most scenic rural towns, with wooded lots and classic colonials set well back from the road. Roofs here take on sun, wind, and the shade and debris of mature trees, so a durable shingle and good ventilation go a long way. See more of our work in Scituate.
