This split-level on Contillo Drive in Johnston needed a rainwater system that could actually keep up — so the story here is the gutters. We paired seamless aluminum gutters, ShurFlo leaf guards, and new PVC trim with a fresh CertainTeed Landmark PRO roof in Max Def Weathered Wood, giving the home a complete, coordinated water-management envelope from the ridge to the ground.

Scope of Work

With the Landmark PRO roof installed and the eaves squared away, we turned to the drainage system. New PVC trim boards were set at the fascia to give the gutters a clean, rot-proof mounting surface, then we ran seamless aluminum gutter — formed on site to the exact length of each run so there are no mid-span joints to leak. We pitched every run toward the downspouts for positive flow, added downspouts sized to carry the roof’s load away from the foundation, and capped the whole system with ShurFlo leaf guards. Explore the full lineup on our seamless gutter systems page.

What We Installed (And Why)

Seamless gutters are the heart of this project. Because each length is rolled from a single piece of aluminum on site, the only seams are at the corners and outlets — dramatically fewer failure points than sectional gutters, which drip and separate over time. The ShurFlo leaf guards sit on top, letting water sheet in while keeping leaves, pine needles, and debris out, so the system keeps flowing without the ladder-and-scoop routine every fall.

The PVC trim is what makes it last. Unlike wood fascia, PVC won’t rot, cup, or feed the moisture problems that eventually loosen gutters from a house — it gives the whole run a stable, maintenance-free anchor. Overhead, the Landmark PRO shingles in Max Def Weathered Wood deliver a warm, driftwood-gray blend and the heavier architectural profile that stands up to wind, tying the roof and the new gutter system together into one finished look.

Good To Know: Are Gutter Leaf Guards Actually Worth It?

For most Rhode Island homes, yes — especially anywhere near trees. Clogged gutters overflow, and that overflow is what rots fascia, stains siding, and drives water down against the foundation. A quality leaf guard like ShurFlo keeps the channel clear so the system does its job during heavy rain, and it turns gutter cleaning from a seasonal chore into a rare one. The value isn’t just convenience; it’s protecting the far more expensive things gutters are there to defend — your trim, walls, and basement.

Why This Approach Works

Gutters don’t work in isolation — they depend on what they’re mounted to and what feeds them. By setting seamless gutter on rot-proof PVC trim, pitching every run correctly, and guarding the whole system against debris, we built drainage that keeps performing long after a basic gutter job would clog or sag. Matched with a new Landmark PRO roof shedding water into it, the home has a single, coordinated system moving rain from the peak safely away from the foundation.

Johnston, RI

Johnston is a well-established suburb just west of Providence, a mix of mid-century split-levels, ranches, and mature tree-lined streets. All those trees are exactly why leaf-guarded, properly pitched gutters matter here — falling debris and heavy seasonal rain put a real load on a home’s drainage.
