A blue colonial on Elton Street in Providence had a roof that had finally worn past the point of patching, so the homeowner called Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights for a lasting fix. Rather than chase leaks, we rebuilt the roof — including the detached garage — in CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black.
Scope of Work
What started as a repair conversation became the right kind of restoration once we assessed the roof’s condition. The crew stripped the failing shingles down to the deck on both the house and the detached garage, replaced any decking that had gone soft, and reset the full water-management system before installing the new shingles and hip and ridge caps. It’s the thorough approach that makes our roof repair work hold up long after a quick patch would have failed. Rather than isolate a single leak and hope, we treated the roof as a whole, so the homeowner ends up with one continuous, reliable surface instead of a map of past fixes.
What We Installed (And Why)
The finished roof is CertainTeed Landmark in Moire Black, a rich, deep-charcoal architectural shingle that sharpens the crisp lines of the blue home and its dormers. Beneath it we built the protection that actually stops leaks: ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and around every penetration, with synthetic underlayment across the field as a resilient secondary barrier.
At the edges and transitions we installed drip edge, wind-resistant starter strips, and step- and counter-flashing where the roof meets walls and the dormers, plus new pipe boots and vents. The detached garage received the same hip-roof treatment for a matched, finished look. Balanced ventilation rounds out the system so the attic stays dry and the shingles last. Matching the garage to the house also matters for a city lot like this one, where both structures are seen at a glance from the street — a coordinated Moire Black roofline gives the whole property a sharp, intentional appearance rather than a patched-together look.

Good To Know: When Does a Roof Repair Become a Replacement?
A repair makes sense when the damage is localized and the rest of the roof has real life left. But when leaks keep returning, shingles are widely brittle or curling, or a roof is simply worn out, repeated repairs just spend money on borrowed time. In those cases a full re-roof costs less over the long run and comes with a fresh, warrantable system. We assess honestly and recommend the path that actually solves the problem — sometimes that’s a modest repair, and sometimes, as here, it’s a complete restoration that finally puts the leaks to rest. Either way, you’ll know exactly why we’re recommending what we recommend.
Why This Approach Works
Chasing individual leaks on a failing roof rarely ends — water finds the next weak spot as soon as you close the last one. By tearing off to the deck and rebuilding the underlayment, flashing, and shingles as one system, we eliminate the sources of trouble instead of masking them. Doing the house and garage together also gives the property a unified, weather-tight result that no patch could match, and it spares the homeowner from calling a roofer back for the same problem year after year. A single, properly built system is almost always the more economical choice over the life of the roof.

Providence, RI
Providence is a city of tight urban blocks and historic homes, where colonials, triple-deckers, and dormered capes sit close together on established streets. Roofs here work hard against coastal weather and a lot of freeze-thaw, so quality repair and replacement matter. Our Providence roofing team is proud to keep the capital city’s homes dry and looking sharp.
