Scope of Work

The crew stripped both roof types, rebuilt the chimney flashing, and installed each system to its own spec: ice and water shield, underlayment, starters, NorthGate ClimateFlex field shingles, and ridge caps on the slopes; fully adhered white EPDM membrane with sealed terminations on the flat. Where shingle meets membrane, the EPDM runs up under the shingle courses so the transition sheds like one roof.

What We Installed (And Why)

NorthGate ClimateFlex is CertainTeed’s Class 4 impact-rated shingle — SBS-modified asphalt that flexes instead of cracking under hail, dropped limbs, and hard freeze-thaw cycles. Good To Know: What does a Class 4 impact rating actually mean?

Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 test — a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet, twice in the same spot, without cracking the shingle. Polymer-modified (SBS) shingles like ClimateFlex pass because the asphalt itself is rubberized and flexes. In practice that means hail, acorns, and branch strikes that scar ordinary shingles bounce off — and some insurers offer premium credits for documented Class 4 roofs. Ask yours.
