Like most Pinnacle projects, the work was completed efficiently — minimizing disruption for the property owner.
This project was handled through an insurance claim; Pinnacle documented everything and worked directly with the adjuster — see how our storm/insurance process works.
With intersecting hip and ridge lines, two skylights, a gable dormer, and a brick chimney rising through the field, this Warwick Cape has a roof with more going on than most — and a complex roof is exactly the kind that punishes shortcuts. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights carried out a full replacement in Moire Black CertainTeed Landmark shingles, resolving every hip, ridge, and penetration cleanly. Because the work stemmed from storm damage, the entire project was handled as an insurance claim. Browse more of our roofing work across Warwick.
Scope of Work
A roof with this many intersecting planes is really a collection of transitions, and each one had to be built right. The crew tore off the old roof to the deck, inspected the sheathing, and replaced any storm-worn boards. Then came the layered system: ice-and-water shield at the eaves, in the valleys, and around the chimney and skylights; synthetic underlayment across the field; new drip edge at the eaves and rakes; fresh step flashing worked into the brick chimney; and proper flashing kits at both skylights. Moire Black CertainTeed Landmark shingles were installed across the hips and field, finished with matching cap over continuous ridge ventilation. See the details of our Residential Roofing service.
What We Installed (And Why)
The finished roof wears Moire Black CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles, a deep, richly shaded black that gives all those hip and ridge lines crisp, defined edges. Landmark’s laminated, dimensional construction is built to resist wind and weather, and on a roof this articulated the shadow lines make the intersecting planes read as intentional and clean rather than busy. The dark field also ties the brick chimney and the two skylights together into one cohesive surface.
Under the shingles, the sealing details do the heavy lifting. Ice-and-water shield locks down the eaves, the many valleys, and the bases of the chimney and skylights — the precise spots where a complex roof is most likely to leak. Synthetic underlayment adds a tough secondary layer across the whole deck, and continuous ridge ventilation lets attic heat and moisture escape so the deck and shingles last. Fresh step flashing at the chimney and correct skylight flashing kits keep those penetrations watertight through hard New England weather. Good To Know: Do skylights make a roof more likely to leak?
Skylights get blamed for leaks that are almost always a flashing problem, not a skylight problem. A skylight set with the correct manufacturer flashing kit, wrapped with ice-and-water shield, and integrated properly into the surrounding shingles will stay dry for the life of the roof. The danger only comes from lazy sealing or caulk used in place of real flashing. On this roof we treated both skylights and the chimney as dedicated details, flashing each one correctly so the penetrations are as watertight as the field around them.
Why This Approach Works
The more hips, valleys, and penetrations a roof has, the more places water can find a way in — which is why a complex roof rewards a methodical, layered approach. Stripping to the deck exposed anything the storm had compromised. Sealing every valley and the base of every penetration before the shingles went on means the roof is protected where leaks actually start. Pairing durable architectural shingles with balanced ridge ventilation protects both the visible roof and the deck beneath it. Done this way, even an intricate roofline performs as one tight, reliable system for decades.
