On a wooded East Greenwich lot, gutters don’t fail from age — they fail from oak leaves, every single autumn. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights ended the ladder ritual at this home with seamless aluminum gutters protected by ShurFlo leaf guards, under a TAMKO Heritage roof in Olde English Pewter.
Scope of Work
The crew installed new seamless aluminum gutters — roll-formed on site to each run — hung with hidden hangers and pitched to the downspouts. Over them: ShurFlo perforated aluminum guards, fitted to the gutter profile and tucked under the shingle edge so debris rides over the top while water drops through thousands of perforations into the run below.
What We Installed (And Why)
A perforated aluminum guard is the working answer to leaf-clogged gutters: rigid enough to hold its shape under snow load, open enough to swallow roof runoff in a downpour, and closed enough that oak leaves, maple seeds, and pine needles stay on top where the wind takes them. No moving parts, nothing to warp, nothing to peel.
The TAMKO Heritage field above — in the deep gray-brown Olde English Pewter blend — sheds onto those guards from a dual-layer architectural shingle that suits East Greenwich’s tree-shaded colonials. Roof and drainage were planned as one system: the shingle edge overhangs the guard by design, not by accident.

Good To Know: Do gutter guards really work, or do they just move the problem?
The honest answer: good ones work, cheap ones move the problem. Foam inserts and plastic screens clog or collapse within a couple of seasons. Rigid perforated aluminum — fitted to the gutter and secured under the drip line — keeps whole leaves out permanently and needs at most an occasional brush-off of the surface. What no guard does is eliminate pitch and downspout problems, which is why guards belong on properly hung gutters, not as a bandage over bad ones.
Why This Approach Works
Ladder falls are the most common serious homeowner injury, and autumn gutter cleaning is when they happen. A guard system that keeps a wooded lot’s gutters flowing eliminates the chore — and the water damage that starts the first year the chore gets skipped.
