On Shore Rd in Westerly, a classic clapboard home needed its rainwater brought under control. The existing siding was in good shape and staying put, but the gutters were not keeping up — so the plan focused on a fresh seamless system, new downspouts, and careful sealing where the roof meets the walls.
Scope of Work
Our crew removed the old gutters, checked the eave line and existing clapboard, and prepared a clean edge to work from. We then hung new seamless aluminum gutters formed on site, pitched each run toward its outlets, and installed new downspouts positioned to move roof runoff away from the foundation. Along the way we sealed the roof-to-wall transitions and touched up the trim so water is guided cleanly off the roof rather than finding its way behind the siding. The completed gutter system traces the eaves in bright white metal against the home’s painted clapboard.
What We Installed (And Why)
This home received a complete seamless aluminum gutter system — each run rolled from a single continuous length so there are no mid-span seams to leak or trap debris. New downspouts were sized and placed to carry the roof’s runoff down and away from the base of the walls, breaking the cycle in which overflowing gutters dump water right against the foundation and splash it back onto the clapboard.
Because the siding was staying, the details mattered. We sealed the spots where the roofline meets the walls so wind-driven rain cannot slip behind the cladding, set the hangers and pitch to keep water flowing toward the outlets, and made sure the new metal sat true against the existing trim. It is a system built to protect a home that already looks the way its owners want — quietly doing its job without changing the character of the house. On the shoreline, where storms roll in off the water and rain rarely falls straight down, those sealed transitions and correctly placed downspouts are what keep a beautiful old clapboard home from slowly rotting from the outside in.

Good To Know: Do new gutters help protect the siding, not just the foundation?
Absolutely. When gutters overflow, water sheets down the face of the house and works its way behind clapboard and trim, where it feeds rot and peeling paint long before anyone notices. A properly pitched seamless system with correctly placed downspouts captures that water at the eave and routes it to the ground in a controlled path — keeping the walls dry and the foundation protected at the same time. On a coastal home that sees plenty of wind-driven rain, that protection is well worth having.
Why This Approach Works
The strength of this project is that it solves the water problem without disturbing a home that is otherwise in great shape. By pairing a seamless gutter system with new downspouts and careful roof-to-wall sealing, we close every path water might take to reach the siding or the foundation. Nothing cosmetic was over-built and nothing sound was torn out — the work was targeted at moving water, which is exactly what protects a well-kept house over the long term. A seamless system also asks for far less upkeep than the sectional gutters it replaced, since there are no mid-run joints to reseal and fewer places for leaves and grit to gather and cause a backup during a hard coastal rain.

Westerly, RI
Westerly is a coastal town of shingled cottages, clapboard homes, and salt air blowing in off the Atlantic, and that ocean weather is exactly why local homes need gutters that perform. Wind-driven rain and heavy seasonal storms test every seam and downspout on a house near the shore. We are glad to help owners throughout Westerly keep their homes dry, season after season.
