On Willow Dr in Hopkinton, a lakeside home was ready for a fresh exterior. Years of sun, wind off the water, and seasonal moisture had left the old siding tired and no longer sealing the way it should. The owners wanted an exterior that would look sharp from the water and stand up to the elements, so Pinnacle handled a full siding replacement as part of a larger exterior refresh, wrapping the home end to end in new material.

Scope of Work

Our crew began by removing the existing siding down to the sheathing, which let us inspect the wall structure underneath for soft spots, moisture intrusion, and any areas that needed attention before new material went up. From there we installed a continuous weather-resistive barrier and taped the seams, flashed every window and door opening, and set clean corner and trim details before hanging the new siding course by course. Each elevation was kept straight and level, with tight reveals and crisp lines at corners and penetrations. This siding replacement was completed as a coordinated part of the home’s larger exterior project, so the transitions between siding, trim, and roofline were detailed to shed water and look seamless.

What We Installed (And Why)

The new exterior started with a full house wrap, a continuous weather-resistive barrier behind the siding that manages any water getting past the surface and lets the wall breathe. Window and door openings were flashed and integrated into that barrier so water is directed back out rather than trapped against the sheathing. This is the layer most homeowners never see, but it is what protects the framing and keeps the wall dry for the long haul.

Over that weather barrier we installed new siding across every elevation, along with fresh corner posts, channel, and trim to finish the edges. Because the home sits near the water, we paid close attention to the details that take the most abuse: corners, gable ends, and the areas where siding meets the roofline. The result is an exterior that seals tight, sheds water cleanly, and gives the house a clean, uniform look from every angle.

Good To Know: Why replace siding instead of painting over it?

Paint only addresses the surface. When siding is aged, cracked, or pulling away, the real problem is that water can get behind it and reach the sheathing and framing, and no amount of paint fixes that. Replacing the siding lets us install a proper weather barrier and flashing underneath, correct any hidden moisture damage, and start fresh with material that seals correctly. You get decades of protection and a low-maintenance finish instead of a coat of paint that has to be redone every few years.

Why This Approach Works

Siding is a system, not just a surface. By tearing off to the sheathing, we can see exactly what condition the wall is in and address problems before they get covered up again. The continuous weather barrier and flashed openings form a drainage plane that keeps water moving down and out, while the new siding and trim handle the wind and sun. Detailing the transitions where siding meets roof and trim is what prevents the leaks that show up years later. Done in this order, the exterior performs as one coordinated envelope rather than a patchwork of parts.
