On Lapham Farm Road in Burrillville, a homeowner wanted to pull natural light deep into the house, so Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights installed multiple new skylights across the roof. The result is dramatic — bright, sun-filled rooms below and clean, properly flashed skylights above, blending seamlessly into the shingle roof of this cedar-shake home.

Scope of Work

Our skylight crew carefully laid out and cut the roof openings to fit the units precisely, framing each one for a solid, square set. Every skylight was installed with its proper curb and manufacturer flashing kit and wrapped with ice-and-water shield to seal the perimeter against leaks. We tied the flashing cleanly into the surrounding shingle courses so the roof sheds water as one system, then finished the interior light shafts to deliver bright, evenly daylit rooms below.

What We Installed (And Why)

The home received multiple new roof skylights, placed to bring daylight into the rooms that needed it most. Each unit was set on a proper curb and integrated with its dedicated flashing kit — the single most important factor in a leak-free skylight — rather than being sealed in with caulk alone. Ice-and-water shield was wrapped around every opening before the flashing went on, giving each skylight a fully waterproof collar that ties into the roof’s own water-shedding layers.

Skylights live or die at the point where they meet the roof, so the flashing was stepped and lapped into the surrounding shingles so water flows over and around each unit and never toward the opening. Inside, the light shafts were finished to spread daylight evenly into the rooms below, turning what were once dim interior spaces into bright, open ones. Done correctly, a skylight adds light and warmth without ever adding a leak.

Good To Know: Do properly installed skylights leak?

A skylight leaks when it’s set into the roof without the right flashing and waterproofing — not because skylights themselves are risky. The key is a proper curb, the manufacturer’s matched flashing kit, and ice-and-water shield wrapped around the opening, all stepped and lapped into the surrounding shingles so water is directed over and past the unit. Installed that way by a crew that knows the details, a skylight is every bit as watertight as the roof around it and will stay dry for the life of the roof.

Why This Approach Works

The difference between a skylight that delights and one that drips comes down to the collar of waterproofing around it. By framing each opening square, wrapping it in ice-and-water shield, and integrating the manufacturer’s flashing kit into the shingle courses, we build a continuous water path that treats the skylight as part of the roof rather than a hole punched through it. That system-first method is what lets us add real daylight to a home with complete confidence that it will stay weathertight.

Burrillville, RI

Burrillville is a rural, heavily wooded town in Rhode Island’s northwest corner, where homes are often tucked among mature trees that leave interiors darker than homeowners would like. Skylights are a natural way to reclaim that lost daylight without sacrificing privacy. Pinnacle is glad to help Burrillville homeowners brighten their homes with expertly installed skylights.
