Like most Pinnacle projects, the work was completed efficiently — minimizing disruption for the property owner.
After a severe storm, a Warner Street homeowner in Newport was left with more than a leaky roof — water had pushed inside, bringing down interior ceilings and soaking framing that had begun to rot. Pinnacle stepped in to secure the home, document the damage for the insurance claim, and rebuild the structure from the frame out.
Scope of Work
Our first move was protection: we dried in the exposed areas and tarped to stop further water intrusion before anything else. Then we documented every affected area in detail for the adjuster. From there the crew rebuilt what the storm had destroyed — replacing rotted framing, re-decking, and restoring the collapsed interior ceilings — before completing a full storm damage restoration with a new watertight roof system on top.
What We Installed (And Why)
Because this was a structural job, restoration started below the roof surface. We cut out and rebuilt the framing members that had rotted where water sat, and replaced decking so every new fastener landed in sound wood. Only once the structure was solid and the collapsed ceilings were rebuilt did we move to the roof itself, layering ice-and-water shield at the vulnerable eaves, valleys, and penetrations, synthetic underlayment across the deck, new drip edge, starter strips, fresh flashing, asphalt shingles, and ridge cap.
The waterproofing sequence exists precisely to prevent a repeat of what happened here: membrane and underlayment give water two barriers to get past before it ever reaches wood again. Rebuilding the framing rather than patching around it means the home is not just dry today but structurally sound, so the interior repairs sit on a foundation that will hold. We finished the interior ceilings only after the frame above them was sound and the roof was closed in, so the new drywall and finishes would not be undone by a hidden leak. Storm restoration is only finished when the house is both watertight and structurally whole.

Good To Know: Will insurance cover storm damage this extensive?
When a storm causes sudden damage — wind-torn roofing, water intrusion, collapsed ceilings, and rotted framing that follows — it is typically the kind of loss homeowners insurance is written for. The key is thorough documentation. We photograph and detail every affected area, from the roof down to the interior structure, and provide the adjuster a clear record so the claim reflects the true scope. We walk homeowners through the process and coordinate directly, so you are not left translating between the insurer and the trades.
Why This Approach Works
Storm restoration fails when a contractor rushes to the shingles and skips the structure underneath. Water damage travels — it rots framing, saturates ceilings, and hides behind finishes. By securing the home first, documenting completely, then rebuilding from the frame up before roofing, we address the actual damage instead of covering it. That order protects both the home and the claim, and it is why the finished result holds up long after the storm. Handling the emergency protection, the structural rebuild, and the roof with one team also means the timeline and the documentation stay tight, which keeps the insurer and the homeowner on the same page from the first tarp to the final ceiling.

Newport, RI
Perched at the tip of Aquidneck Island, Newport takes the direct hit from coastal storms and nor’easters coming off the Atlantic. Homes here face wind and driving rain that inland houses never see, which is why fast emergency response and full structural restoration matter so much on this stretch of the bay.
