East Greenwich, RI Storm Damage Roof Restoration — Moire Black Landmark

Like most Pinnacle projects, the work was completed efficiently — minimizing disruption for the property owner.

This project was handled through an insurance claim; Pinnacle documented everything and worked directly with the adjuster — see how our storm/insurance process works.

A painted white brick colonial with black louvered shutters is one of East Greenwich‘s most timeless looks — but even the sturdiest home is only as protected as its roof. After a windstorm swept through, several courses of shingles on this two-story colonial’s hip-and-gable roof had lifted and torn, breaking the seal that keeps water out. The homeowner filed an insurance claim, and Pinnacle restored the roof to a finished Moire Black CertainTeed Landmark that sits crisp and dark above the white brick.

Scope of Work

Wind damage is deceptive — shingles that look fine from the street may have broken their adhesive seal, leaving them ready to peel in the next gust. We started by inspecting and photographing every lifted and creased shingle, then met the adjuster on-site to walk the roof and confirm the scope; that documentation is the backbone of our storm damage restoration process. With the claim approved, the crew stripped the roof to the deck, checked the sheathing across both the hip and gable sections, and dried everything in. We then installed ice-and-water shield at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the field, new drip edge, fresh chimney flashing, the new Moire Black CertainTeed Landmark shingles, and ridge-cap ventilation — and tied the existing leaf-guard gutters back into a clean, watertight edge.

What We Installed (And Why)

The new roof is CertainTeed Landmark in Moire Black, a dimensional charcoal shingle whose deep tone plays beautifully against painted white brick and black shutters. Beyond looks, Landmark’s laminated construction and strong wind rating are exactly what a hip-and-gable roof in an exposed neighborhood needs — wind resistance is the whole point after a wind claim. Beneath the shingles, we rebuilt the roof with ice-and-water shield, synthetic underlayment, and metal drip edge so the deck is protected at its most vulnerable points.

The brick chimney received new flashing, since old flashing loosened by wind is a frequent hidden leak source. The home’s leaf-guard gutters were preserved and re-integrated into the new edge detail, keeping the water management the homeowner had already invested in. The finished system is a complete restoration — new shingles over new underlayment and flashing, working together the way a roof should.

Good To Know: How do I know if wind lifted my shingles?

Wind damage often isn’t visible from the ground. Shingles can be creased or have their seal broken while still lying flat, which means they’ll leak or blow off later even though the roof looks intact today. Telltale signs include shingles that flutter in a breeze, granules collecting in gutters, or debris in the yard after a storm. A professional inspection catches what an untrained eye misses — and because Pinnacle documents it thoroughly, that evidence supports your insurance claim.

Why This Approach Works

Patching a few wind-lifted shingles rarely solves the problem, because the same storm that lifted the visible ones usually weakened the seal across the whole slope. A full tear-off to the deck lets us verify the sheathing, rebuild every protective layer, and restore the manufacturer-intended wind performance across the entire roof. Preserving the leaf-guard gutters and re-flashing the chimney means no component is left behind. The homeowner ends up with a uniform, warrantable roof rather than a mismatched repair that fails again in the next blow.
