Johnston, RI Water-Damage Restoration and Full Roof Replacement on Baldwin Dr

Like most Pinnacle projects, the work was completed efficiently — minimizing disruption for the property owner.

On Baldwin Dr in Johnston, a single-story ranch had been quietly losing the battle with water. By the time the homeowners called Pinnacle, the damage had worked its way inside; water-stained ceilings were the visible symptom of a roof that had been leaking long enough to rot the decking underneath. This was a damage-driven restoration, documented insurance-style, and it called for a full re-roof to make the home weather-tight again.

Scope of Work

We started by documenting the damage thoroughly, photographing the failed decking and the interior water staining so the condition was recorded clearly for the homeowners and their insurer. After drying in the roof to stop further intrusion, our crew tore off the old shingles and found extensive rot across the sheathing where water had been getting through. We replaced all of the compromised decking with new plywood, then rebuilt the roof from the deck up: ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations, synthetic underlayment across the field, drip edge, starter strips, and architectural asphalt shingles finished with ridge cap and balanced ventilation. Our storm and water-damage restoration process kept the home protected from the first day on site.

What We Installed (And Why)

Because the leaks had already rotted the decking, the first thing we installed was a new, sound roof deck. Replacing the failed plywood gave the entire roof a solid nailing base; without it, even the best shingles would sit on a compromised structure. Over the new deck we applied ice-and-water shield at the eaves, valleys, and around penetrations, the exact places where water had been finding its way in, followed by synthetic underlayment across the whole roof as a durable secondary barrier.

We then installed architectural asphalt shingles over the entire home, with drip edge at the edges, flashed penetrations, and ridge-cap shingles above a balanced ventilation system. Architectural shingles bring better wind resistance and a longer life than basic three-tab, and proper attic ventilation helps prevent the heat and moisture buildup that shortens a roof’s lifespan. Together, the new deck, waterproofing layers, and shingles turn a roof that was failing into one built to keep the home dry for decades.

Good To Know: Will my insurance help pay for a damaged roof?

Why This Approach Works

Water damage rarely stays where it starts. By the time ceilings are staining, the roof deck itself is usually compromised, which is why a surface patch would only have hidden the problem. Tearing off completely let us find every rotted section, replace the decking, and lay down a full waterproofing layer at the vulnerable eaves and valleys before a single new shingle went on. That is the difference between stopping a leak and truly restoring the roof: the home is protected from the deck up, not just at the surface.

Why Pinnacle

Johnston, RI

Johnston is a well-established residential town just west of Providence, known for its mix of mid-century ranches, family neighborhoods, and rolling wooded stretches. Its homes see the full swing of New England weather, and older roofs here are prime candidates for the kind of slow water damage that shows up on the ceiling before the attic. Pinnacle is proud to help homeowners across Johnston restore and protect their homes.
