Like most Pinnacle projects, the work was completed efficiently — minimizing disruption for the property owner.
This project was handled through an insurance claim; Pinnacle documented everything and worked directly with the adjuster — see how our storm/insurance process works.
This two-story North Kingstown home wears its New England character on its sleeve, with cedar shake siding, a wrap-around covered porch under a standing-seam metal roof, and white-trimmed double-hung windows. Years of weather had worn the main hip-style roof down to the point where a storm was all it took to push it past repair, opening up leaks the owners could no longer chase. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights restored the full roof in Weathered Wood CertainTeed Landmark shingles and carried the insurance claim from the first inspection through completion. Scope of Work
We started by inspecting and photographing the worn and storm-damaged roof in full, documenting the aged shingles, the failing field, and the areas where water had already found its way in. That record became the backbone of the insurance claim, and we walked the adjuster through it on site so the scope matched the roof’s real condition. With the claim settled, the crew stripped the hip roof to the deck, checked and replaced any soft sheathing, and installed ice-and-water shield at the eaves and hips along with synthetic underlayment over the entire surface. New drip edge, flashing, and the Weathered Wood shingles went on next, tied together with proper ridge ventilation. Our Storm Damage Restoration service is designed to turn a stressful claim into a straightforward one.
What We Installed (And Why)
The restored roof is finished in Weathered Wood by CertainTeed Landmark, a warm brown architectural shingle with a variegated, wood-look blend that pairs naturally with the home’s cedar shake siding. On a hip-style roof, where every plane is visible from the ground, that dimensional color keeps the large expanse from looking flat and gives the whole home a cohesive, settled appearance.
The layers beneath the shingles are what turn a worn-out roof into a weather-tight one. Ice-and-water shield guards the eaves and hips against wind-driven rain and winter ice dams, and full synthetic underlayment shields the deck across the entire roof. New flashing was fitted where the main roof meets the porch’s standing-seam metal roof and other transitions, and balanced ridge ventilation was restored so heat and moisture can escape the attic rather than shortening the life of the new shingles. Together these layers give the home a roof that performs like new from the deck up, not just a fresh coat of shingles over old problems.

Good To Know: Can an old worn-out roof still qualify for a storm claim?
It often can. Age alone is not usually a covered loss, but when a storm causes fresh damage to an already tired roof, that new damage can be the basis of a valid claim. The challenge is separating storm damage from ordinary wear, which is exactly why thorough documentation matters. We photograph the specific damage a storm caused and present it clearly to the adjuster, so the claim is built on evidence rather than assumptions about the roof’s age. That way the conversation with your insurer stays grounded in what the storm actually did.
Why This Approach Works
An aging roof that takes storm damage needs more than a few replacement shingles, because the underlying materials are already at the end of their service life. A complete tear-off lets us inspect and repair the deck, seal the vulnerable eaves and hips, and reset the ventilation, so the new roof performs like new rather than inheriting old problems. Pairing that thorough restoration with a well-documented claim means the homeowner gets a lasting roof and a fair, honest process to pay for it.
