This home at 78 Neptune Street in Jamestown had a first-generation VELUX skylight that had outlived its useful life. The homeowner wanted to bring light into the entryway with a modern, energy-efficient replacement — and add solar-powered blinds for light control without running new electrical wiring. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights replaced the old unit with a brand new VELUX fixed skylight with solar-powered blinds, installed with VELUX’s patented No Leak flashing system.
Scope of Work
The crew removed the old first-generation VELUX skylight and inspected the surrounding deck and flashing for moisture damage. The new VELUX fixed skylight with solar-powered blinds was installed with the complete No Leak flashing kit — step flashing, deck seal, and weatherproof underlayment integrated as one system. The existing resawn shake roof was carefully worked around to maintain a clean transition between the new skylight and the surrounding roofing material.
What We Installed (And Why)
The new VELUX fixed skylight with advanced Low-E3 glass coating provides 40% to 60% improved energy efficiency compared to the old unit it replaced. The Low-E3 coating allows maximum daylight transmission while blocking heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter — a significant upgrade from first-generation skylight glass. The solar-powered blinds operate on a rechargeable battery charged by a small integrated solar panel, giving the homeowner light control at the touch of a button with no electrical wiring.
VELUX’s No Leak skylight system includes an industry-first comprehensive warranty covering the skylight and its installation against leaks for 10 years. That warranty is only available when the complete VELUX flashing kit is installed by a credentialed contractor — which is exactly how Pinnacle handles every skylight project.

Good To Know
Skylight technology has changed dramatically since the first generation of VELUX products. Early skylights used single-pane or basic double-pane glass with minimal coatings, which meant significant heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Modern VELUX skylights with Low-E3 glass are engineered to let visible light through while reflecting infrared heat — keeping interiors comfortable year-round without the energy penalty. If your home has skylights that are 15 years old or more, a replacement can deliver noticeably better energy performance, reduce condensation issues, and qualify for the VELUX No Leak warranty that wasn’t available when the original units were installed.
Why This Approach Works
Replacing an aging skylight is one of the highest-impact upgrades a homeowner can make. The visual effect — natural light in an entryway — is immediate, but the energy efficiency improvement and leak protection are the real long-term value. VELUX’s No Leak flashing system and 10-year installation warranty eliminate the concern that keeps many homeowners from adding or replacing skylights: the fear of leaks. Combined with solar-powered blinds for effortless light control, this is a modern skylight installation done the right way.

Jamestown, RI
Jamestown occupies Conanicut Island in the center of Narragansett Bay, connected to the mainland by the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge and to Newport by the Pell Bridge. Homes here face sustained coastal exposure — salt air, high winds, and intense sun — which accelerates the aging of skylights and roofing materials. Pinnacle has completed numerous skylight and roofing projects throughout Jamestown and understands the specific demands of island construction. See our Jamestown roofing page for more on how we serve this community.
