VELUX Fresh Air Skylights on a Landmark PRO Colonial Slate Roof — West Greenwich, RI

Like most Pinnacle roofing projects, the work was completed in a single day — minimizing disruption for the homeowner.

Pinnacle makes every roof affordable with monthly financing options to make your home project affordable with low monthly payments, including 0% interest for 18 months.

Deep in wooded West Greenwich, this home’s reroof came with a brightness upgrade: VELUX manual “Fresh Air” skylights with solar blinds, installed as part of a complete CertainTeed Landmark PRO roof in Colonial Slate. New roof, new light, one project.

Scope of Work

The crew replaced the roof as a full system — membrane, underlayment, starters, Landmark PRO field shingles in Colonial Slate, matching caps — and set the VELUX Fresh Air units directly into the new field with their engineered flashing kits, each fitted with solar-powered blinds.

What We Installed (And Why)

VELUX’s manual Fresh Air skylights open for genuine ventilation — warm air rises out, cross-breeze follows — and their solar blinds manage light and heat without wiring. Closed on winter nights, the blinds help hold room warmth; opened on summer evenings, the skylights exhaust the day’s heat. Solar-powered accessories may also qualify for a federal tax credit.

Under a tree canopy, Landmark PRO‘s StreakFighter algae resistance earns its keep, and Colonial Slate’s blue-gray Max Def blend gives the house a dressed, estate-like roof that reads beautifully in dappled light.

Good To Know: What do venting skylights actually do for a house?

They complete a convection loop most homes never get. Heat stratifies — the warmest air in any room sits against the ceiling — and an opening skylight lets it escape while pulling cooler air in from windows below. In wooded settings where homes rely less on air conditioning, that passive flush can drop upstairs temperatures noticeably on summer evenings. Add rain-smart habits (or choose solar-powered models that close themselves) and a venting skylight becomes the most-used “window” in the house.

Why This Approach Works

Skylights installed during a reroof are flashed into fresh material by the same crew — no retrofit compromises — and the roof system, glass, and blinds all start their service lives together under coordinated warranties.

West Greenwich, RI

West Greenwich is Rhode Island’s quiet forest corner — long driveways, tall pines, and homes built for privacy that can run dim inside by design. Skylights change that equation more here than almost anywhere. Pinnacle installs and integrates them across the town’s wooded properties.
