This custom home at Quissett Ave in Falmouth, Massachusetts called for something beyond a standard skylight. The homeowner and builder wanted to bring dramatic natural light into the center of the home — directly over the stairway — using a skylight system that could span the roof ridge. Pinnacle Roofing & Skylights installed a VELUX commercial Ridgeline skylight, a specialty product designed to straddle the peak of the roof and deliver an uninterrupted column of daylight down through the core of the house.
The Ridgeline skylight transforms the stairway area from an interior passageway into a light-filled architectural feature. It enhances both safety and aesthetics — natural light on stairs reduces trip hazards, and the visual impact of a ridge-mounted skylight is immediately striking from both inside and outside the home.
Scope of Work
Pinnacle’s crew worked with the builder to frame and flash the custom ridge opening, then installed the VELUX Ridgeline skylight system with full weatherproofing details at the peak. This is not a standard residential skylight — the Ridgeline product is a commercial-grade unit engineered to span the ridge beam, which means the structural integration, flashing, and waterproofing are all more involved than a typical curb-mounted installation. Pinnacle handled every step, from structural coordination through final trim, ensuring the skylight was seamlessly integrated with the home’s existing roofline.
What We Installed (And Why)
The VELUX Ridgeline skylight is a commercial product designed specifically for ridge-peak installation. Unlike standard deck-mounted or curb-mounted skylights that sit within the roof plane, the Ridgeline spans across the peak — creating a continuous glazed opening that captures light from both slopes of the roof. This provides dramatically more daylight than a conventional skylight of comparable size, and the centered ridge placement means light reaches deep into the interior rather than falling on a single wall or floor area.
VELUX is the world’s largest skylight manufacturer, and their commercial Ridgeline product carries the same engineering standards as their residential line — tempered glass, low-E coatings for energy efficiency, and factory-integrated flashing systems. As a VELUX Signature Skylight Specialist, Pinnacle has the training and experience to install both standard residential skylights and specialty commercial units like the Ridgeline.

Good To Know
Not all skylights are the same product. A standard deck-mounted skylight sits within the roof plane and is designed for typical residential applications — bedroom, bathroom, kitchen. A curb-mounted skylight sits on a raised frame and is common on flat or low-slope roofs. A Ridgeline skylight is an entirely different category — it straddles the roof peak, which requires structural coordination with the ridge beam and specialized flashing that handles water shedding from both slopes simultaneously. The installation complexity is significantly higher, which is why this type of skylight is typically found in commercial or high-end residential applications and requires a contractor with specific VELUX training.
Why This Approach Works
Placing a skylight at the roof ridge captures light from both exposures — morning sun from one slope, afternoon sun from the other — and delivers it to the deepest part of the interior. For a stairway in the center of the home, there’s no better placement. The VELUX Ridgeline system handles the structural and weatherproofing complexity of a ridge-peak installation with factory-engineered components, and Pinnacle’s experience with VELUX skylight installations ensures every detail — from the structural framing to the final flashing — is executed correctly.

Falmouth, MA
Falmouth sits on the southwestern corner of Cape Cod, with a mix of year-round residences, seasonal homes, and custom new construction along Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound. Coastal exposure here is significant — salt air, sustained winds, and intense sun all take a toll on roofing materials and skylight installations. Pinnacle Roofing serves Falmouth and the broader Cape Cod area, bringing the same installation standards and manufacturer credentials that have made them a trusted name throughout Rhode Island and southeastern New England.
